He may be one of the youngest drivers in the game, but Chase Elliott knows his stuff. He was already driving when his friends were still wetting the bed, and his 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship made him the first rookie champion in the history of the sport. We caught up with Elliott to discuss speed limits, college football, and spending time in the garage.

Q: How old were you when you first learned how to drive?
A: 7 years old.
Q: When did you first fall in love with racing?
A: I’ve loved racing since I can remember.
Q: Who taught you how to drive, and what kind of car was it?
A: My dad taught me how to drive in his old cars.
Q: What car is currently in your garage?
A: 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Q: Any motorcycles, ATVs, boats, or RVs in your garage as well?
A: I’ve got a Husqvarna motorcycle, a 22MXZ Malibu boat, and a Prevost bus.
Q: What’s the best road trip you’ve ever taken?
A: A few buddies and me took a road trip to Jacksonville, FL for the Georgia vs. Florida game a few years ago. Made for a long day, but we have a lot of good laughs.
Q: What’s one road trip where you’ll always take the scenic route over the fastest route?
A: I’ll always take the fastest route.
Q: What’s your favorite song about cars or racing?
A: “Talladega” by Eric Church.
Q: Are you a cruise control kinda guy or foot always on the gas pedal?
A: I’m always on the gas.
Q: What does a typical road trip pit stop look like? Candy, chips, soda?
A: Four tires and fuel, nothin’ else.
Q: What’s the most interesting thing you keep in your car?
A: We’ll keep this a mystery.
Q: If you could change one “rule of the road,” what would it be?
A: I would definitely change the speed limit.
Q: Windows down or air conditioner?
A: A/C unless the weather is good, then the windows are coming down.
Q: If your life philosophy was a bumper sticker, what would it say?
A: Sink or swim.
Q: How many hours a week do you spend in the garage?
A: Depends on which garage you’re referring to. I spend a lot of time in the garage during the weekends.
Q: What’s the longest road trip you’ve made in one sitting?
A: I’ve driven to Colorado, which took 22 hours.
Q: What’s your dream car?
