We are proud to have several veterans and active military working with us here at Valvoline. Jeff Saadat, Valvoline Global OEM Sales Manager, served in the Navy from 1981 - 1985 as a medic. He was on board the LHA 5 USS Peleliu and sailed the Western Pacific. Read more about what inspired Jeff to serve and how he carried over the skills he learned into his career today.

Why did you choose to serve?

My Grandfather was in World War II. I have always respected him and wanted to follow in his path.

What was your role and how did you achieve your rank?

I was a Navy medic (Hospital Corpsman) and I achieved my rank by exceeding standards and passing required tests.

What was it like serving on a ship versus serving on land? And did you have a preference?

Serving on a ship, you are separated from civilization and reality for months at a time. On land, you had all the experiences of “regular” life. Preference, definitely land, but would never pass up the opportunity to sail.

What was the most rewarding part about being a Navy medic?

Being prepared to save lives when and where I was needed was the most rewarding part. There is nothing like the reward of saving a life.

What advice do you have for those considering service?

The service, regardless of branch, will enable you to grow into the person you are and can be.

Who are your American heroes?

Anyone who sacrifices their life for their country is an American hero in my book.

Did you have any first responders or military in your family growing up? And did they inspire you to serve?

Yes, my grandfather was a pilot in World War II. I looked up to him and simulated him my entire life.

Do your skills from service come in handy while working at Valvoline?

That’s a great question. I think every aspect from serving my country had an effect on myself and on the skills that I learned and experienced in the military, primarily the medical field. Communication, understanding, and the ability to work with all people are the strengths I maintain.

Tell us about what you drive when you’re off duty?

A Honda Pilot.
