Awards season is among us, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by recognizing some of our favorite on-screen show-stoppers.
Our fans and followers shared some of their favorite vehicles of the silver screen. How many of these cars take you back?
Scott K — “It’s just a cool looking car in a show I used to watch when I was a kid. It had a one of a kind paint scheme that most people knew at a glance and could link it to the show. I really don’t have a particular scene I favored more than any other. I just like the look of the car with the paint design and colors.”
Starsky & Hutch cruised in style when they were intercepting criminals on the run. But then there’s the Turbo Interceptor…
Mike G. — “I love the looks of the car and thought it was pretty cool how they used it in the movie. All of the race scenes with the Turbo Interceptor are a fun watch. In addition to the race with the red Daytona, probably my favorite scene with it is when they set up a road block and the car stops on a bridge thinking he could no longer run. Then, you see some electricity zapping around the body of the car right before it takes off and runs right through the roadblock of cars completely destroying them, while the Wraith car is left unscathed. It briefly stops, then takes off again disappearing into balls of light as it ascends the hill. The police are left with nothing to chase.”
We wouldn’t recommend running from the authorities unless you’re The Wraith, of course. But if you are the authorities—particularly, international super-secret spy kind of authorities—an unforgettable set of wheels is a must.
James Q. — “Her Majesty’s Secret Service showcased the 1969 Cougar XR-7, driven by the doomed new wife of James Bond. My first car was a 1970 Cougar XR-7 with a 351 Cleveland engine, hideaway headlights, and sequential taillights. I fell in love with the Cougar as a small boy and when my Dad bought me my Cougar in 1979, I felt like James Bond every time I took the wheel. Even though the movie that featured it gets a bad rap because it wasn’t well received by the movie goers, that car driving the curvy roads will always be emblazoned in my mind.”
That 1970 Cougar XR-7 is pretty sweet, you have to admit. But if you’re a bit more rebellious, look no further than Kowalski’s 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Magnum.
Len H. — “An awesome car with a man racing against time caught on the wrong side of the law. Doesn’t get much better.”
And for those of you who prefer a throwback model in a modern setting, look no further than this 1967 Chevy Impala known for chasing down demons. (Yes, actual demons.)
Stewart B. — “It was the best-looking body style of all the Impalas with the 396 and a 4 speed. I like any of the scenes where they just punch it and head down the highway, it sounds SO SMOOTH running.”
Whether it’s one of these five or not, these are just a handful from many examples of cars that stole the scene. All on-screen cars are award-winning in our book and we’re ready to see what future cars are just around the bend. Until then, you can find us catching up with our favorites right here.
